Brakzand is a folk group with a very special sound. Brakzand consists of five enthusiastic musicians from all over the country, from Friesland to Zeeuws-Vlaanderen.
They had been active musicians for years when they took the stage together for the occasion of Liereliet 2011 and decided to go on together as Brakzand.
Their repertoire is both English and Dutch and includes both songs and instrumental madlots, swaying polkas and Mazurkas.
The hurdy gurdy and the melodeon make old times come alive. Along with violin, guitar, mandolin, flute and the sophisticated song arrangements they give the music a touch of country and ballad.
Taste the longing for the sea and the longing for loved ones in beautiful ballads and shanties. A musical mix for you to enjoy. Merry and melancholy. Playful, sometimes intense.
Brakzand are: Albert de Bruijn (vocals, guitar, mandolin), Wouke de Jong (vocals, flute, percussion), Hans van Raamsdonk (hurdy-gurdy), Saskia van Gerven (vocals, diatonic button accordion, bodhran) and Rianne Korevaar (vocals, violin, accordion and flute).
